A number of events contributed to this. The painter collaborated with, among others, Nicolas Poussin, and painted at the royal courts of: Marie de Medici, Louis XIII, and Cardinal Mazarin. In addition, he created portraits of Cardinal Richelieu and Pascal. It is also worth paying attention to his scientific activities. Philippe de Champaigne was the rector of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
As a representative of the baroque, his work focused on biblical themes, mythology, and the previously mentioned portrait painting. He was interested in people and he put them with all their advantages and disadvantages first. He also did not shy away from the theme of death. One of his most famous works is "Vanitas".
