The output of Carl Spitzweg, one of the most important painters of the late Romantic period, moves between irony and idyll, between Biedermeier and Impressionism. Sam Spitzweg, originally self-taught, travelled and polished his skill in the centres of European painting: Paris, Venice and Rome. Carl Spitzweg's reproductions are paintings in which colour and strength appear like prints on canvas or acrylic glass. Are you thinking about reproducing 19th-century paintings in your interiors? The works of Carl Spitzweg are a real treat for lovers of lesser-known, but equally sophisticated painting. The German-born artist lived and worked in the 19th century. He was self-taught, never graduated from any painting school. In accordance with the will of the family, he dealt with the trade, continuing the family traditions. He was also an active political activist. So where did his interest in art come from? Well, under the influence of his father, he took a job at the "Under the Lion" pharmacy located in Straubing, where he met numerous actors and painters. From that meeting, his life path could not have been different.

The German represented the Biedermeier style in his work. His characteristic eclecticism was complemented by attention to detail, faithfulness to detail and very high accuracy. When painting, Carl Spitzweg drew from everyday life, creating genre scenes and presenting the world around him as it really is. The artist willingly depicted people in domestic situations. Hence, the work of the German is a great case study of those times. In addition, in his paintings you can also find nature in the broad sense, with landscapes at the forefront.

Carl Spitzweg canvas paintings for home

Carl Spitzweg's paintings will look great in classically decorated interiors. The theme of the paintings, their subdued, sometimes dark colors will work very well, for example, in rustic interiors. To emphasize their characters, it is worth combining them with patterned wallpapers like from a royal court. By adding carpets, wooden furniture, golden, decorative frames, we will get the desired effect straight from the old era. It is also worth taking care of additional lighting of the paintings so that every detail and every brushstroke is visible.
