Hiroshige Andō called Utagawa Hiroshige is one of the most famous Japanese painters, graphic artists and ukiyo-e artists active in the 19th century. Despite the fact that Hiroshige Utagawa did not come from an artistic family, in 1811 he began his studies in the workshop of Toyohiro Utagawa. Hence his nickname, which he used instead of his last name. Most of Hiroshige's works were created in the woodcut technique. At the very beginning, he started with portraits that depicted famous actors. Later, however, he focused on landscapes, which made him famous. His achievements include many compositions consisting of flowers, birds and views of roads and cities. Utagawa Hiroshige's most famous works are the series "One Hundred Famous Places in Edo" and "Fifty-Three Stations on the Tōkaidō Road".The artist died during a cholera epidemic, but his works have inspired other artists for centuries, such as: Udo Kaller, Vincent van Gogh, James McNeill Whistler, Paul Cézanne, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Paul Gauguin.
