Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - Woman at her Toilet

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), was a French painter and graphic designer. He was one of the leading representatives of Post-impressionism. With his colourful litographics and illustrations, which depict the nineteenth-century bohemian life in Paris, he exerted great influence on the development of the modern poster art (Moulin Rouge, Ambassadeurs: Aristide Bruant, Jane Avril in Jardin de Paris, Divan Japonais). The artist lived and worked in Montmartre. He had a remarkable ability to observe – his paintings perfectly reflect the thriving atmosphere of Paris (cabarets, cafes, theatres, horse races). He became famous as a painter of nightclubs. Artistic activity of Toulouse-Lautrec exerted great impact on many painters of the 20th century, especially connected with Art Nouveau and Expressionism.
