Jan Vermeer (1632-1675), the most famous Dutch painter of all time. His paintings depict mostly genre scenes. On Vermeer's paintings dominate women inside buildings pictured while standing by the window, reading letter or listening to music. In his portraits we can see an ideal realism of characters and subjects (wine, letter, pearls, music instruments, maps, drapes). Most of his works criticised human vices (drinking, promiscity, vanity). The most famous masterpiece painted by Vermeer is 'Girl with a pearl earring', full of mistery and yet devoid of pretentiousness portrait of an young woman.
